Our rescue for this month was of NERO a dog who as assessed by a veterinary doctor would have been atleast 16 years of age. Nero was a street dog, leading a street life. He was found in a completely emanciated state and seemed very unwell when we had received his rescue call.

Hachi is an aged dog about 14 to 15 years in age. Like most street dogs he shows signs of Arthritis and has limitations in walking. He also has limited vision. On observation of his life on street, he was seen to have difficulty in walking, would walk very slowly and would cross slowly too.

Another one of our rescues who we found near one of the temples on outskirts of Pune during end May 2013. Little – was a really little female grown up puppy who was very frightened and sat under a vehicle . We spotted her limb which looked all red and immediately got off the ambulance

Nanhi  - is in true sense Nanhi which means “Little”

Sep 21st as I was returning to Bombay , there was a “ Small Beautiful Little Brave Soul” trying to cross the highway, with a disabled forelimb. That was a white puppy with a disability in the forelimb. We slowed down and picked her up in time, and that’s how we found “RADHA”

Rima is an extremely unfriendly female sterilized dog , she refuses to come near and when we feed her, we have to  keep the food and stand away, then only will she come and eat .

August 2012 saw the rescue of another dog with Maggot wound. Daniel was again a timid frightened grown up puppy who does not come near humans nor would he allow to treat his wound, nor allow to touch. Thus he had to be picked up and sent for treatment. Daniel was treated cured and released after 10 days.

July 21st we get a call for Snowy.  Snowy is a sterilized, female, Indian street  dog who is about 3 years old.   Snowy is wounded running high fever and was found sitting in a dry gutter , frightened unable to get up and walk. This was seen when Snowy  did not come running as usual with excitement to take her night meal.

Golu is an old 15 year old dog who lives in a Society. He has grown up in this society as a Puppy. This is a very good example of how a pup grew from puppy to youth to old age in a building and guards the Society . Golu got a ear infection where his ear was oozing.  Within sometime his ear developed into a maggot wound. Golu was rescued and treated by ISHA at the Animal hospital.

DZANN – was a mixed breed long haired young male dog, neutered, who was left on a busy road one day to fend for himself .  He was on the streets on 25th Jan 2012. Initially, Dzann would  walk a by lane aimlessly looking at all buildings and sitting in the middle of the lane , having little know-how of cars, bikes and traffic.

Benji - is a neutered, mixed breed pet dog who is about 2 years in age and has been abandoned. Benji entered a residential complex seeing refuge from traffic and the hustle bustle since he looked like a pet who had never experienced the outdoors.

Christopher  was a very old street  dog who looked ill, tired with life, had a small tumour  on the below side of his chest . Christopher was found lying down  on 4th March at the corner of a lane, unable to move, was having cataract , and seemed hungry and starved. He seemed to be in pain

Willie is a  7 month old puppy  with skin infection on the lower side of the body was rescued from a slum and taken for treatment .  Willie had a skin infection on his paws and stomach – as shown in the pictures

ISHA also got some dogs sterilized with the support of ambulance, dog catchers and the surgical facility at In Defense of Animals – Deonar (IDA-Deonar)

The second puppy had an injury on the hind limb as seen in the photos and the wound had worsened as the pup did not come to take her medicines and get the application done by the family who cared for them, she had also disappeared for over a day and I had some frantic calls to take her the moment they spot her! Well as I went there no one could find her despite a almost 2 hour search, and she was seen 1 day later.

This is an update to the rescue and treatment of puppies in the slums . Two of the pups being treated had to be shifted as the wounds were not healing. The pup with the maggot wouNd  was taken to another NGO for treatment, being rainy season the pups were getting wet and the wounds were not healing, thus we moved them.  This pup was treated at a place called AHIMSA and thanks to Ahimsa, his leg had improved and got better, he was then released back to the place he was picked up from.

These are little puppies born a month back to a stray female. The female will be sterilized once the puppies wean off the mother, however, at this point the mother and puppies have sort shelter in the small house of a family there. One of the pups was injured and thus was given some external treatment with ointments etc

Few days back, I got a call from a girl in the slums who mentioned 3 pups being injured and one dog not eating too well.  31st July a rather rainy day here in Mumbai, with overcast shadowed skies,  God was kind and it had stopped raining.  I prepared my doggie bag of medicines, ointments, dog food, biscuits, some milk and was on the errand to check out these little puppies.

We set out early morning to round up a few dogs from a posh residential complex for sterilization, when whilst  we were set to leave after having caught the dogs  we saw Sandy. Sandy is a stray female dog who was sterilized by us during March 2010.
